a greater reset by geoff mackenzie
Geoff Mackenzie will be leading a long-weekend program of Ashtanga Vinyasa at Northaven Retreat Centre, situated on the edge of Jasper National Park.
Our week together will consist of morning Mysore-style and Led classes, as well as practical workshops and gatherings for pranayama, meditation, chanting, and discourse on yoga.
Yoga is a technology that helps us see Reality for what is: Nature
Our current culture has us disconnected from the land, from each other, and from our own humanity.
Let’s unplug, reset, and spend a glorious week together: interacting live, in-person, in the wilderness, with real human beings!
Who is this retreat for?
Suitable for all levels and styles of yoga practitioners.

Are you just making a shape, or are you using all your joints and tissues synergistically? Are you hanging out in a pose, or pulling yourself together? Let’s find out, so you can make your physical practice truly life-long. Physical yoga practice asks us to bring attention and activation to all parts of the body. We will breakdown foundational level postures of varying types, to address issues commonly encountered in most forms of physical yoga.

All postures are built with component parts, each taking its ideal share of the load. Are all your parts in good working order, or are you relying on just a few to do all the labour? Let's deconstruct and rebuild various forms of "back-bending" postures, to ensure that we are practicing them safely, effectively and with a view toward our body's blindspots.

If there’s anywhere we need to be bendy AND strong, it’s in these types of postures. Learn how to approach them with intelligence, even from a long way off. Whether these types of postures are in your practice or not, the discoveries we make in this session will apply all across the range of your daily practice: especially relative to forward bending and hip joint movement.

About Geoff Mackenzie
Geoff Mackenzie has been practicing yoga for over 20 years. He began teaching classes in 2004. His guidance is informed by his extensive studies with the Jois family in Mysore, India, combined with input from innovative Western practitioners. Modern approaches to strength, mobility and breath-work training feature in his own practice too.
Geoff is a reliable, steady presence in the classroom. You can count on him to apply the Ashtanga Vinyasa method in a way that will challenge you, while still respecting where you’re starting from and what your intentions are. Ultimately, he wants you to breathe well, move well and to focus your mind on what you’re doing.
Geoff was born and raised in the UK. After spending his late-teens and twenties snowboarding and surfing around the world, he has made Coastal BC his home since 2003. One of his greatest passions is motorcycling and he finds riding to be both exhilarating and meditative, simultaneously.
